CALL FOR PAPERS AND PAPER PROPOSAL SUBMISSIONS

 

SUBMISSION DEADLINE:   NOVEMBER 1, 2013

Phi Alpha Theta invites all members of the organization to present a paper at the 2014 Biennial Convention. Proposals from all historical fields and time periods are encouraged.  The conference is open to faculty and students at all levels including undergraduates, Master’s candidates, Ph.D. students, as well as students who have graduated.

There is no limit to the number of students each chapter may send to the conference to present a paper or simply attend.  However, all paper proposals must be approved and submitted by the Chapter Advisor and each student may only present one paper.  All presenters must be verified members of Phi Alpha Theta. Any proposal not meeting these guidelines will not be accepted on the program.

Panels will be arranged based on their general theme, i.e. Cold War, 19th Century Europe, 20th Century US, etc.   We are unable to accommodate individual scheduling requests.   Once the program is finalized, students will receive an email confirming the date and time of their panel.  The email will provide the contact information for their panel chair, to whom they should send their paper.  Papers should not be sent to the National Office.

 Presentations are not to exceed fifteen minutes in length (approximately 8-10 typed, double-spaced pages) and, due to the exorbitant cost, no audio-visual equipment is available.

CHAPTER DELEGATES

Each chapter is eligible to send ONE official Delegate to the convention. Delegates are appointed by the Chapter Advisor, who is responsible for signing and submitting the Delegate Credentials Form.  All Delegates must pay the registration fee and purchase the complete meal package.  In addition, all Delegates must have their Advisor submit the Delegate Credentials Form, sign in at the registration table and attend the Roll Call of Delegates and Business Meeting scheduled for Saturday, January 4, 2014. Delegates who meet these requirements are eligible to receive a $100 travel reimbursement.

The Delegate Credentials Form must be received from the Faculty Advisor by December 1, 2013. The form may be faxed to (813) 974-8215 or emailed to info@phialphatheta.org.

HOTEL

The Phi Alpha Theta 2014 Biennial Convention will be held at the Hyatt Regency Resort & Spa, located on the Santa Ana Pueblo outside of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Our discounted room rate is $119/night (plus tax + $10/night discounted resort fee) for single or double occupancy. You can, however, have up to four people in a room at a cost of $25 per additional person ($144/night triple occupancy, $169/night quadruple occupancy). Located on 200 acres of Santa Ana Pueblo land along the Rio Grande, the Hyatt Tamaya Resort & Spa is 2 miles from the Santa Ana Star Casino, 24 miles from Old Town Albuquerque, and 40 miles from Santa Fe. MEALS

We will be sponsoring eight meals at the convention, which will feature guest speakers and ample time to mingle and network with other convention attendees. These meals are ticketed events and you must make your purchase by December 15, 2013. You can choose to buy individual tickets to the meals of your choice or you can also opt for the complete meal package, which includes tickets to all eight Phi Alpha Theta events for $200.

REGISTRATION

The pre-registration fee is $120 for faculty and $100 for students and the deadline to register is November 1, 2013.  After November 1, the registration fee will increase to $140 for faculty and $120 for students.

Please note: All convention participants must register by November 1, 2013 in order to be on the program. This includes student and faculty presenters, as well as panel chairs. If we do not receive your registration fee by this date, you will be removed from the convention program and unable to participate on the panel.

All convention delegates must register by November 1, 2013 to be eligible for the $100 travel reimbursement.
