Ben H. Procter SWSS Research Award 2013
Entries must be received by February 25, 2013
Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society encourages student research and scholarly presentations by awarding the Ben H. Procter Research Paper Award prizes each year to the best of the papers presented by Phi Alpha Theta student members at the Southwestern Social Science Association annual meeting. Competition is not limited to the Phi Alpha Theta sections. The prizes include monetary stipends.
Awards may be given in each of three categories – (1) United States History, (2) European History, and (3) Asian-Latin American-African History. Each paper will be evaluated on the basis of its clear thesis, good analysis, smooth error-free writing, good use of a wide range of sources, and effective use of scholarly notes and bibliography. Length of papers should be appropriate to the 20-25 minutes time allotted for presentation in the program sessions, e.g., 10-13 double-spaced pages plus notes.
Phi Alpha Theta student members at all levels of preparation who are presenting history papers in any sessions at the Southwestern Social Science Association sessions, March 27-30, 2013, in New Orleans, Louisiana, are encouraged to enter the competition for the Procter Phi Alpha Theta awards.
To enter the 2013 competition, send three (3) copies of your paper to Prof. J. Howell Smith at the address below. He will distribute the papers to the reader judges in each category. Entries must be received by February 25, 2013. A paper may be submitted to only one category.
If award winners are attending the conference, they are expected to attend the Friday afternoon, March 29 business meeting of the Southwestern Historical Association where national leaders of Phi Alpha Theta will recognize the students and present awards checks.
